This week we tried SHAPE HOUSE – The first and only urban sweat lodge, where ancient tradition and modern wellness meet to burn calories, deepen sleep, improve skin, lift moods and change lives. According to Carson Daly, Selena Gomez credited Shape House with transforming her body. Other celeb clients include the The Kardashians (Khloe and Kourtney) and LL Cool J (as seen on Ellen).
Sweating has all sorts of health benefits: boost antioxidants, surging endorphins, great for your skin, flushes out toxins – the list goes on. Personally, the only way for me to get over a hangover was to sweat – it was my secret weapon for years. So when Brittany heard about the Shape House – a place where the whole point is to bundle you up in a sweat bed, we were all for it.
Pretty straight forward: they lend you socks, a pair of sweatpants, and a long sleeve shirt and show you to the Sweat Bed, which is essentially a plastic bag, in a sleeping bag covered with an electric blanket. They crank the temperature up to 100 degrees and leave you there for 55 min to sweat like a hot watermelon. You get headphones, and a remote control so you can watch Netflix or Hulu and it’s pretty incredibly enjoyable. Until the last 15 min.
THE LAST 15 MIN ARE BRUTAL! The heat really gets to you and your mind plays tricks on you. But they put a cold lavender wash cloth on your forehead and it’s over before you know it.
Afterwards, you decompress in the Relaxation room: an orange calming zen studio with calming music, orange slices and tea. The idea of the room is to allow your body to continue the health benefits as it returns to a normal temperature, something Shape House founder, Sophie Chiche, champions.
If it’s good enough for Selena Gomez, it’s good enough for us.
